For a problem that’s so common, hemorrhoids don’t get talked about very often. Up to half of adults will experience hemorrhoids (which is also known as Piles) before the age of 50. Piles consists of inflamed or swollen veins around the anal area and makes going to the toilet very painful. They can be located on the outer as well as inner side of the anus. Due to their intimate location, people suffering from hemorrhoids often have inhibitions about going to see their doctor. It’s good that essential oils provide a home remedy solution that can prevent hemorrhoids (piles) from appearing in the future. This article will highlight some of the best cures using essential oils for hemorrhoids.

Apart from the pain, other symptoms can include
-blood in your faeces and/or around the anus.
-a lump in or around your anus.
-a constant feeling that you have to go to the toilet (your bowels never feel empty)
-Soreness and itchiness around the affected area
It almost certainly is one of the most unpleasant issues. There are a few things that can help you avoid hemorrhoids:
Eating a high-fibre diet will help ease some of the symptoms as your stool will pass through more easily. Foods such as raw fruit and vegetables and cereals will do the trick. Drinking enough fluid will aid as well. Moreover, there have been studies that show that people who spend more time on toilets tend to get hemorrhoids more often. So, cut that next toilet visit short and decrease your chance of getting hemorrhoids.
There are many conventional treatments for hemorrhoids but they often are invasive (such as surgery). Fortunately, essential oils are an effective treatment for hemorrhoids. Best of all, if you continue to use them regularly they will offer long term solution so that you will never have to worry about hemorrhoids again. Follow the steps below and your hemorrhoids will be cured in no time.
Benefits of using Essential Oils
Hemorrhoids have plagued humans forever. But even humans in the Stone Age managed to find ways to cure it. The plants which provide the basis for essential oils grow throughout the world. They are very likely to have used essential oils to heal themselves.
The essential oils we will be looking at have got various beneficial qualities:
-As natural anti-septics they kill off bacteria and viruses
-They soothe the area around the anus reducing itchiness and soreness
-They stop the bleeding and reduce swelling of the blood vessels.
-They encourage blood flow around the anal area.
-They heal the skin around the affected area
Best Essential Oils For Hemorrhoids (Piles) Treatment
I will write about Lavender Oil and Tea Tree Oil which support the most important oil in combating hemorrhoids: Cypress Oil. Witch hazel, although not an essential oil, is also a very important ingredient in soothing hemorrhoids.
Tea tree oil for Hemorrhoids
Tea tree oil comes from Australia and has been used by the aboriginal people of Australia for thousands of years. It’s a versatile anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal oil. These properties come in handy, ensuring that the affected area heals free from infections. Furthermore, tea tree oil is also anti-inflammatory and will aid the other oils in reducing the swelling of the blood vessels. Tea tree oil for hemorrhoids alone is not the most effective cure. It works best when combined with cypress essential oil for hemorrhoids relief. Often blends, as in the case of cold sores, work best than any one essential oil by itself.
Lavender oil for Hemorrhoids
Lavender oil is a well established remedy for all manner of problems. It is most often used as a soothing oil that can be vaporized or applied directly to the skin. In the case of hemorrhoids, lavender is effective in reducing itchiness and soreness.
Cypress oil for Hemorrhoids
Cypress Oil is commonly found around the Mediterranean and was often valued as a medicine by ancient civilisations. It is considered useful where there is excessive loss of fluid and acts as a binder to stop fluids of all kinds. It is often also used to treat diarrhoea.
Cypress oil is probably the single most important component for an essential oil treatment of hemorrhoids and should not be ignored.
Witch Hazel for Hemorrhoids
Witch Hazel is widely used as an agent that contracts tissue and its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiseptic and antifungal properties will aid in keeping the open hemorrhoids free of bacteria. Moreover, it also has some properties which help stop bleeding. When utilising witch hazel, make sure it doesn’t have any ethanol (alcohol) in it. If you can’t find any alcohol free versions the one with alcohol will do.
How to apply Essential Oils Home Remedies
Simple Solution: Topical Essential Oil Hemorrhoid Application
Given the hypersensitivity and soreness of the anal area, I would recommend not applying any of the essential oils in a concentrated form. Otherwise you may experience a very uncomfortable stinging sensation.
Instead, create a blend of essential oils that will reduce itchiness and start the healing process by combining:
Mix this together and pour into a dark coloured bottle for storage. You can now apply one drop to a wet soft towel or wipe and dab it onto the affected area every time you go to the toilet.
Note: It is important to NOT apply the essential oil blend directly. Always dilute it with water or even better with a carrier oil before applying (such as jojoba or coconut oil). If this solution is still too strong for you, you can dilute it further by adding carrier oil prior to application.
Advanced Solution: Hemorrhoid Gel + Sitz bath
This method is somewhat more complicated, but well worth it if you have the time and patience. First we will create a soothing gel. Cypress essential oil is aided by the anti-inflammatory and anti-septic qualities of Juniper and Geranium essential oils.
– In a small non-reactive bowl combine the essential oils with the witch hazel and mix thoroughly.
– Add the aloe vera gel and mix thoroughly (again)
– Transfer to a small re-sealable glass jar
– Mix it thoroughly before each application
At this stage you could use this gel and apply it to the affected area by gently massaging the hemorrhoids. Or to make it more effective you can do a sitz bath (or a large tub/basin if you do not own a sitz bath). The bath will help to relax and soothe the hemorrhoids prior to application of the gel.
– Roman Chamomile Essential Oil (2 drops)
– Juniper Essential Oil (2 drops)
– Cedarwood or Sandalwood essential oil (2 drops)
– Milk (1 teaspoon/5mL)
– 1 sitz bath/ large tub for bottom
– Fill sitz bath with just enough warm water to cover your bottom
– In a small non-reactive bowl combine the milk with 2 drops each of Roman Chamomile, Juniper and cedarwood or sandalwood essential oils.
– Add the mixture to the sitz bath water and agitate to disperse the oil
– Soak your bottom for 10-15 minutes and follow by gently massaging the previously made hemorrhoid gel into the hemorrhoids. If it stings add a bit more aloe vera gel.
Internal Hemorrhoids Solution: Suppositories
There is an interesting method which I came across recently from the people at Healthy and Natural World. I haven’t seen it in action before and it seems like a lot of effort, but this could help a lot of people suffering from hemorrhoids on the inside of the anus.
They suggest making suppositories of coconut oil and essential oils to insert into the anus.
-Organic virgin coconut oil
-Your chosen essential oil or blend* (up to 5 drops)
-Silicon ice cube tray
*I recommend Cypress oil as it can close the blood vessels on the inside. Alternatively, a blend of all of the previously mentioned essential oils will do the trick as well. Don’t overdo it and go for fewer essential oil drops rather than more.
Method (for one compartment of the ice cube tray):
-Pour the liquid coconut oil into the compartment of the tray until it’s half full. If the coconut oil is solid you can liquify it by warming it up in a glass jar sitting in a pot of hot water.
-Place the tray into the freezer for 1-2 hours until frozen
-Remove the tray and add your essential oil drops.
-Fill the rest of the compartment up with the liquid coconut oil and place back into the freezer.
-Remove the tray after 1-2 hours and you can use it immediately
The outside of the suppositories will melt immediately as it touches the skin. It will thereby provide its own lubricant as you insert the suppository. After a few days the condition should improve markedly.
